Kase-Ha Shotokan-Ryu Karate-Do
Kase-Ha
Shotokan-Ryu Karate-Do is a karate style which was developed by Sensei Taiji
Kase on the basis of traditional Shokotan style which was founded by Funakoshi
Gichin and his son Yoshitaka. Sensei Taiji Kase was especially impressed by Yoshitaka's
approach and ancient Samurai tradition, which served as a crucial guide for him
to develop the system of practice which is based on the foundations of Budo philosophy.
Apart from numerous innovations in the domain of technique, such as moving the katana with an open hand manoeuvre and the system of practising katana in four directions, the main difference between Kase's concept lies in the way of strength development. Looking at the classical style, there is a rotation of the hips and a physical contraction of muscles as the primary source of strength in karate technique. In Kase's karate style, strength comes as a result of the movement and control of inner Ki energy, which is itself the result of controlled consciousness and abdominal breathing, as is the case in all martial arts which base their concept of exercise on Budo philosophy.
The sole authentic representative of this style in our region is Sensei VELIBOR VEBO DIMITRIJEVIĆ. He was one of Taiji's closest followers and assistants until his death, and Taiji Kase himself chose him as one of his successors.
Sensei Dimitrijević took upon himself the moral obligation to further spread and develop Kase's teachings and is one of the founders of the World Kase Ha Academy which continues the tradition and teachings of Sensei Taiji Kase.
Sensei Dimitrijević developed a unique training system of Kase's karate, which in an analytical and accessible way connects aspects of physical exercise with elements of mental enhancement and specific breathing techniques with the aim of reaching a level of superiority, not simply grasping technical skills and obtaining physical power.
The symbol of Kase Ha Shotokan Ryu Karate-Do style is the ideograph GI.
"GI represents moral duty as the highest form of a warrior's honour, morality and dignity. GI also means that one renounces any selfish behaviour, follows a voice of reason and contributes to humanity. Finally, GI signifies respect for tradition and the teacher because it represents the initials of Gichin and Yoshitaka Funakoshi, the founders of Shotokan style".
